The Preoperative Association is delighted to announce a new Foundation Course for Preoperative Assessment Nurses. This 3 day Foundation Course consists of 2 days of interactive virtual lectures and 1 day of face-to-face small group teaching.


The Foundation training will cover the core skills required for effective patient assessment in the preoperative clinic. This course is suitable for all band 5 or 6 nurses working in the field of POA, independent or NHS sectors. Allied professionals such as Pharmacists / ODPs are also welcome to attend.


Teaching will be delivered by the Preoperative Association Council. A unique inter-professional team of national experts in Preoperative Assessment - nurses, anaesthetists and Pharmacists.


The 1 day face-to face small group teaching will consolidate the information of Foundation course Part 1 with case scenarios and problem solving.

Topics include:

  • History taking to identify anaesthetic problems
  • Neck and airway assessment + chest auscultation
  • ECG interpretation
  • Pharmacy challenges
  • Scenario based interactive sessions
  • Nursing skills and Competencies

Part 2 Fees: Members: £275 / Non-members: £300
