The Preoperative Association is delighted to announce a new Foundation Course for Preoperative Assessment Nurses. This 3 day course consists of 2 days of interactive virtual lectures and 1 day of face-to-face small group teaching.


The Foundation training will cover the core skills required for effective patient assessment in the preoperative clinic. This course is suitable for all band 5 or 6 nurses working in the field of POA, independent or NHS sectors. Allied professionals such as Pharmacists / ODPs are also welcome to attend.


Teaching will be delivered by the Preoperative Association Council. A unique inter-professional team of national experts in Preoperative Assessment - nurses, anaesthetists and Pharmacists.


The 2 days of interactive virtual lectures will cover the core topics of preoperative assessment.

Part 1 Fees: Members: £275 / Non-members: £300 

Please note:  This fee does not include Part 2 course. There is an additional fee to pay when booking the Part 2 course

  • Medication management including herbal medications
  • Lifestyle factors & prehabilitation
  • Obesity & obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Cardiac & respiratory conditions
  • Common conditions - diabetes, anaemia, hypertension
  • Airway assessment & chest auscultation
  • Understanding blood results
  • Identification of abnormal ECG
  • Identifying high-risk patient & anaesthetic referral


Please note: Delegates must attend Part 1 before applying for Part 2 of the Foundation Course. Price for Part 2 includes Nursing Skills & Competency Workbooks.
