Mrs Anne Wright RGN, BSc(hons), Post grad Dip Advanced Nursing Practice

Anne qualified in 1985 and is currently the Senior Sister for preoperative Assessment Services in Hywel Dda University Health Board in Wales.

Her interest in preassessment started in 1992 whilst working in the Day Surgery Unit. During this time she completed her nursing degree and her dissertation focused on the benefits of preassessment for the Day surgery Patient. The information gained from this study helped to develop the preassessment service within the Health Board.

She was responsible for setting up a pre screening service for patients being placed on the elective waiting list. Patients are given advice regarding smoking cessation, dietary advice and keeping active before their surgery. This service ensures only patients that are fit are placed on the waiting list reducing cancellations and ensuring patients are fitter before their surgery.

Anne has also worked on a part time basis as a lecturer practitioner with University of Wales Swansea.

She completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing Practice (Nurse Practitioner) in 1995. The skills developed here helped her to further develop the preasessment service.

Anne is passionate about Preoperative Assessment and is interested in sharing ideas and benchmarking to develop the service. She has a particular interest in the development of staff within this important service.

She is a member of the British Association of Day surgery and the ERAS Society.
