Jo Mahoney, BSc (Hons), RN, V300

Secretary of the Preoperative Association

Jo is the Lead Quality Nurse for Preparation for Surgery at the University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) working to develop pre-operative assessment and preparation services across all sites and as part of the broader transformation programme for UHL.

Jo has previously held the position of National Clinical Specialist for Pre-Operative Assessment for Spire Healthcare, and National Lead for Pre-Operative Assessment for Nuffield Health, working within the independent sector to standardise services nationally.

Jo’s clinical experience in pre-operative assessment has been varied, working as a Registered Nurse, Deputy Sister and Clinical Project Lead in several NHS trusts.

In 2013, Jo held the position of Clinical Project Lead at Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust working with the Lead Anaesthetist to implement a standardised nurse led pre-operative assessment service across a multisite trust.

Jo has an infectious enthusiasm for pre-operative assessment, and a particular interest in perioperative medicines management as a non-medical prescriber.
